El Paso de Video Es Donde Tus Artistas Se Van

Every distribución platform has the same success metric y it is the wrong one. Entrega accepted. Release activo. Estado green. The pipeline did its job, el panel says so, y the ticket closes.

The artist's week is only starting. They ahora need a Canvas for Spotify, motion artwork if it is an álbum, something for YouTube, y a vertical cut for Reels y TikTok. Nothing in the platform they just paid helps with any of that.

So they go somewhere else. That handoff is the single most under-instrumented churn moment in independent distribución, y almost nobody measures it because it does no look like churn. Nobody cancels. They just stop finding the product interesting between releases.

What leaving actually costs tú

Four things happen when an artist has to go elsewhere for the video, y only one of them is obvious.

The revenue goes somewhere else. This is the visible one. Video is an ancillary purchase attached to a release, y it is attached to somebody else's checkout.

They re-upload the assets they already gave tú. This is the one that matters. To make the video, el artist downloads the master y the cover art out of su platform y uploads them into a competitor's. That is a small, repeated, unignorable signal that su product does no hold their catalogue so much as almacenar it.

Su engagement window closes early. Release week is the only period where an artist logs into a distribución panel more than once. If the product has nothing for them after the delivery confirmation, el session ends y the next one is three months away.

Someone else gets the surface area. The vendor that makes their video is ahora in the artist's release workflow, sees the same catalogue tú do, y is one product decision away from selling distribución.

Why nobody builds it

Because it is no a feature. It is a product team.

Doing this yourself means licensing a stock footage library at a scale that supports a roster, running render infraestructura that can absorb release-day spikes, y tracking format specifications that Spotify y Apple change on their own cronograma without asking tú. Then it means supporting todo of it, in the same queue as delivery issues, for a feature that is no su core negocio.

That maths is why the video step has stayed a gap for a decade. It is genuinely hard, it is genuinely no distribución, y it is genuinely the thing su artists most want tú to solve.

The construir-versus-embed line

The honest version of the decision looks like this.

Build it if video is going to be a differentiating product in its own right, tú have the team to keep it current, y tú are prepared to own footage licensing as an ongoing legal position rather than a one-off purchase.

Embed it if what tú actually want is for the artist to never leave, el asset to land back on the release, y the specification drift to be somebody else's problem.

For almost every etiqueta, distributo und platform operator, el second one is the correct answer, y the reason is no cost. It is that an embedded video step tú did no construir still keeps the artist inside su product, which is the entire point.

Cómo se ve lo bueno

Whatever route tú take, el same four properties decide whether it works:

  • No re-upload. The video starts from the release record, using the master audio y cover art already attached to it. The moment an artist has to fetch a file, tú have lost the argument.
  • Correct by construction. Each format is produced to the destination platform's own specification. An artist should no be able to make a Canvas that Spotify rejects.
  • The asset comes home. The finished render belongs on the release, in su almacenamiento, alongside the audio. Not in a enlace in an email from a vendor.
  • Su brand, no the vendor's. If the artist sees a third party's logo at the moment their release goes activo, tú introduced them to a competitor at su own expense.

The part nobody says out loud

Distribución is cerca to a commodity at the delivery layer. Everybody reaches the same stores, most people reach them competently, y price competition has been grinding margins down for years.

What is left as a differentiator is whether the product is useful in the week that matters. Not cerrar-in, which artists resent y eventually escape. Usefulness, which they stay for.

The video step is the clearest example available. It is the moment of highest intent in the entire artist relationship, y most platforms answer it with a confirmation email.

How this works as an embedded product line bajo tu propia marca: Vídeos promocionales with Rotor Vídeos by LyricFind, y how white etiqueta works.
