The Video Step Is Where お客様の Artists Leave

Every 配信 platform has the same success metric および it is the wrong one. 配信 accepted. リリース 稼働中. ステータス green. The pipeline did its job、 dashboard says so、および the ticket closes.

The artist's week is only starting. They 今 need a Canvas for Spotify, motion artwork if it is an album, something for YouTube、および a vertical cut for Reels および TikTok. Nothing in the platform they just paid helps with any of that.

So they go somewhere else. That handoff is the single most under-instrumented churn moment in independent 配信、および almost nobody measures it because it does ではない look like churn. Nobody cancels. They just stop finding the product interesting between releases.

What leaving actually costs お客様

Four things happen when an artist has to go elsewhere for the video、および only one of them is obvious.

The revenue goes somewhere else. This is the visible one. Video is an ancillary purchase attached to a release、および it is attached to somebody else's checkout.

They re-upload the assets they already gave お客様. This is the one that matters. To make the video、 artist downloads the master および the cover art out of お客様の platform および uploads them into a competitor's. That is a small, repeated, unignorable signal that お客様の product does ではない hold their catalog so much as ストア it.

お客様の engagement window closes early. リリース week is the only period where an artist logs into a 配信 dashboard more than once. If the product has nothing for them after the delivery confirmation、 session ends および the next one is three months away.

Someone else gets the surface area. The vendor that makes their video is 今 in the artist's release workflow, sees the same catalog お客様 do、および is one product decision away from selling 配信.

Why nobody builds it

Because it is ではない a feature. It is a product team.

Doing this yourself means licensing a stock footage library at a scale that supports a roster, running render インフラストラクチャ that can absorb release-day spikes、および tracking format specifications that Spotify および Apple change on their own schedule without asking お客様. Then it means supporting すべて of it, in the same queue as delivery issues, for a feature that is ではない お客様の core business.

That maths is why the video step has stayed a gap for a decade. It is genuinely hard, it is genuinely ではない 配信、および it is genuinely the thing お客様の artists most want お客様 to solve.

The build-versus-embed line

The honest version of the decision looks like this.

Build it if video is going to be a differentiating product in its own right, お客様 have the team to keep it current、および お客様 are prepared to own footage licensing as an ongoing legal position rather than a one-off purchase.

Embed it if what お客様 actually want is for the artist to never leave、 asset to land back on the release、および the specification drift to be somebody else's problem.

For almost every label, distributまたはd platform operator、 second one is the correct answer、および the reason is ではない cost. It is that an embedded video step お客様 did ではない build still keeps the artist inside お客様の product, which is the entire point.

理想的な状態とは

Whatever route お客様 take、 same four properties decide whether it works:

  • No re-upload. The video starts from the release record, using the master audio および cover art already attached to it. The moment an artist has to fetch a file, お客様 have lost the argument.
  • Correct by construction. Each format is produced to the destination platform's own specification. An artist should ではない be able to make a Canvas that Spotify rejects.
  • The asset comes home. The finished render belongs on the release, in お客様の ストレージ, alongside the audio. Not in a リンク in an email from a vendor.
  • お客様の brand, ではない the vendor's. If the artist sees a third party's logo at the moment their release goes 稼働中, お客様 introduced them to a competitor at お客様の own expense.

The part nobody says out loud

ディストリビューション is close to a commodity at the delivery layer. Everybody reaches the same stores, most people reach them competently、および price competition has been grinding margins down for years.

What is left as a differentiator is whether the product is useful in the week that matters. Not ロック-in, which artists resent および eventually escape. Usefulness, which they stay for.

The video step is the clearest example available. It is the moment of highest intent in the entire artist relationship、および most platforms answer it with a confirmation email.

How this works as an embedded product line お客様自身のブランドで: Promo 動画 with Rotor 動画 by LyricFind、および how white label works.
