Music Distribution API,
answered
Quick answers to what teams ask before integrating with the ToneGrid Music Distribution API.
What is a music distribution API?
expand_more
A music distribution API is a programmable interface that lets labels, aggregators, and distributors deliver releases, manage rights, ingest audio, pull analytics, and process royalties on streaming platforms without uploading manually. The ToneGrid Music Distribution API exposes every step of the digital supply chain, from release creation to DDEX delivery to royalty payout, over a single RESTful endpoint.
Which DSPs does the ToneGrid Music Distribution API deliver to?
expand_more
The ToneGrid API delivers to 150+ digital service providers including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Deezer, Boomplay, Anghami, JioSaavn, NetEase Cloud Music, KKBox, Pandora, iHeartRadio, Audiomack, Napster, and every other major streaming or download store. Delivery uses DDEX ERN 4.3 with real-time acknowledgement tracking.
Is ToneGrid's API DDEX compliant?
expand_more
Yes. ToneGrid's distribution pipelines use DDEX ERN 4.3 (the current industry-standard release notification schema) for all DSP communication, with DDEX ERN 4.4 readiness on the 2026 roadmap. The API accepts both DDEX XML deliveries and a simpler JSON release model that ToneGrid translates into DDEX automatically.
Can I white-label the ToneGrid Music Distribution API?
expand_more
Yes. The Music Distribution API is multi-tenant by design. Labels, aggregators, and sub-distributors can operate their own branded distribution product on top of ToneGrid's infrastructure, including their own domain, mailers, and pricing, while ToneGrid handles the DSP commercial relationships, DDEX delivery, royalty pipelines, and compliance.
Does the API include royalty accounting and payouts?
expand_more
Yes. The Royalties API surfaces ingested DSP statements, computes splits across writers and rights holders, supports cross-currency conversion, and triggers payouts via the same call. Per-stream reporting and territory-level breakdowns are available through the Analytics API.
Is there a sandbox environment?
expand_more
Yes. A sandbox is available at api-sandbox.tonegrid.pro with mock DSP delivery responses, isolated databases, and reset-friendly state. Sandbox keys are issued separately from production keys so you can build and test integrations without touching live releases.
How does authentication work?
expand_more
The API uses OAuth 2.0 with scoped access tokens. Tokens are issued per integration and can be restricted to specific endpoints (e.g. releases.read, analytics.read, royalties.write). All requests are TLS 1.2+ and rate-limited per tenant. Full reference lives in the API documentation.
